England is a funny place. We spend much of our time obsessing about weather. It used to be the weather forecast, now it is a daily glance at an app on your mobile phone.
Imagine my excitement when the weather was predicted hotter than Cyprus last week.
Not one to miss an opportunity my boyfriend and I booked an overnight stay in Sussex. A frisson of excitement at escaping London and setting forth to the coast energised us. We weren’t disappointed.
We arrived at Camber Sands and lay down to soak up the sun. After all it was twenty six degrees, (twenty eight degrees in London).
There is something about the sound of the sea, the distant horizon and the gentle breeze that is so soporific that it makes you feel instantly peaceful.
It wasn’t until I got back to London and my boyfriend sent me this message: “The older I get, the more I realise that the things that cost nothing, hold the most value.”
We forget how important nature is, how important peace is, how important it is to be still and simply appreciate the sound of the sea.
